Worry for Man United: Patrick Dorgu forced off with injury during Denmark clash vs Wales

Manchester United have suffered a fresh injury blow that could pose a lot of problems for head coach Michael Carrick.

Patrick Dorgu started for Denmark in their second UEFA Nations League group game against Wales today, but his evening was cut short after just 30 minutes.

The 21-year-old was forced off with an injury and was replaced by Joakim Maehle.

Dorgu was seen clutching his hamstring as he made his way towards the tunnel, immediately raising concerns over the severity of the problem.

He started in the left wing position after featuring on the opposite flank against Norway last week.

Major concern for Michael Carrick

Carrick will be anxiously awaiting further updates after seeing one of his most versatile players forced off with a potential hamstring injury.

Dorgu has predominantly operated in an attacking role under the former midfielder, but he has also been asked to provide defensive cover when required.

The £29.6 million signing featured at left-back against Sabah FK and Manchester City, demonstrating the flexibility that makes him such a valuable option for Carrick.

An injury to Luke Shaw previously forced Carrick to deploy Dorgu in a more defensive role.

The Red Devils are next in action against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on October 10, before facing a hectic schedule that includes a further five games next month.

Dorgu’s ability to operate in multiple positions gives Carrick valuable options, meaning a prolonged absence could leave United with another significant selection problem.

United captain Bruno Fernandes has also suffered an injury and is unavailable for today’s Portugal clash against Norway.

It remains to be seen how long the two key players could be out of action.
