A selection of Manchester United supporters have levied praise on goalkeeper David de Gea following the club’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils sealed a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur in midweek and they continued in the same vein of form against the Cityzens, whom they outclassed on the counter-attack.
A penalty from Marcus Rashford and an Anthony Martial strike gave the side a 2-0 advantage after just 30 minutes on the clock and the team thereafter produced a resolute defensive display.
Still, the services of De Gea were required in the second period and the Spaniard made a couple of top-notch saves to deny Rodri and Riyad Mahrez – the latter when the Cityzens were seeking to level the scores.
As a result, there has been a general appreciation for De Gea, who has not had the best of years in the United shirt. Here are some of the reactions towards his performance in the Manchester derby…
Don't forget De Gea's saves today reds… They were world class. #MCIMUN

United’s 2-1 win over the Cityzens has propelled them to the fifth spot on the table and they are now within five points off Chelsea, who are occupying the final Champions League qualification spot.
Their next Premier League clash comes against Everton on the road but prior to that, they have Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar to face in the Europa League.
With qualification already sealed to the knock outs, the match could offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with another chance to feature some of the graduates from the Under-23 squad.
