Wolfsburg Women vs Man United: Match preview, head-to-head, team news, where to watch

Manchester United Women face Frauen-Bundesliga side Wolfsburg at AOK Stadion on Wednesday evening, aiming to continue their flawless start in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

United defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 last time out, making it three wins out of three matches in the competition.

By contrast, Wolfsburg tasted their first defeat, losing 3-1 to 2024 winners Lyon.

Match preview

Man United head into the fixture on the back of a 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City, marking their second consecutive losses in the Barclays Women’s Super League games.

Marc Skinner’s side will hope to put their domestic struggles aside and continue their unbeaten streak in Europe.

United have not been prolific in attack, scoring just four goals, but boast the joint-best defensive record, conceding just once.

The Mancunian giants are set to face their strongest test yet in the competition and will have to be brilliant at both ends of the pitch to get a positive result.

Wolfsburg are the favourites for this clash, owing to their pedigree. They have won the competition twice and been runners-up on four occasions.

They bounced back from their defeat to Lyon to beat SC Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal Women’s Cup on Saturday and will hope to build on that momentum ahead of Wednesday’s showdown.

The German side need a victory against United to bolster their chances of securing automatic qualification to the knock-out stages.

Head-to-head

This is United’s first-ever meeting with the two-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winners.

Team news

Ella Toone, Jayde Riviere, and Simi Awujo are ‘okay‘ after sustaining minor fitness concerns against City. However, goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce is still being assessed.

As for Wolfsburg, Smilla Vallotto is racing to be fit, but Sophia Kleinherne and Vivien Endemann have been given the medical clearance to feature.

Where to watch

The encounter will be shown live in the UK on Disney+, while a watch-along will be available on United’s official YouTube channel.
