Williams and Martial start, Predicted Man United lineup (3-4-1-2) to face Chelsea

Manchester United have the opportunity to extend their recent winning streak when they face Chelsea on the road in the fourth round of the League Cup. The Red Devils have won the past two games against Partizan Belgrade and Norwich City away from home and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping that team can carry on with the positive momentum and progress to the quarter-final stage of the League Cup.

Predicted Lineup:

Sergio Romero has been the regular choice when it comes to the Cup competitions and the Argentine is likely to start in goal. David de Gea did make a surprise appearance in the Europa League earlier this month but he has not made the travelling squad this time around.

In the defence, Solskjaer may consider reverting to a three-man backline which worked with good effect against Liverpool earlier this month. Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Marcos Rojo are the most likely combination to start.

At right-wing back, Solskjaer will certainly go with Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The England youth international has been exceptionally with his tackling through his debut season at United and he will have another test of his credentials with the likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi coming up against him.

On the opposite end, club graduate Brandon Williams should get the nod over Ashley Young, who seemed a liability at Norwich City despite the Red Devils’ comfortable 3-1 triumph. The youngster has impressed in successive Europa League games and he should provide the energy driving forward from the left wing-back spot.

In the centre of the park, Solskjaer should go with the best combination at his disposal. Scott McTominay, who bagged the opening goal at Norwich remains an undisputed starter. He should be accompanied by Fred, who seems to have turned his fortunes of late. The Brazilian made seven tackles against the Canaries on Sunday.

In the attack, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are pretty much guaranteed the centre-forward spots after scoring a goal apiece against Norwich. Behind them, Andreas Pereira will most likely get the start ahead of Daniel James.

Unlike James, Pereira has not contributed directly to the goals scored by the side, but he has impressed with his distribution and link-up play. The Brazilian also remains a threat with his set-piece delivery and was able to create three goalscoring chances over the weekend.
