Will Man Utd move for Adrien Rabiot or lose him to another club?

Manchester United were keen on signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot last summer, but a transfer did not materialise after a disagreement over personal terms.

The Red Devils have recently revived their interest in the Frenchman and have a brilliant opportunity to sign him with his Bianconeri contract expiring at the end of June.

Rabiot has rejected a renewal with Juventus, and the Premier League could be his next destination, having revealed his desire to play in England during the World Cup.

United boss Erik ten Hag is known to be an admirer of the 28-year-old and in our opinion, the club should make a contract offer before other clubs enter the race.

Rabiot would be an upgrade on outgoing Fred

Rabiot had a difficult 2021/22 season with the Bianconeri, but managed to transform his fortunes last term. He was one of their best-performing players.

The Frenchman registered 11 goals and six assists from 48 outings. Aside from this, he won 84 per cent of his passes, winning two tackles and 5.8 duels per game.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star played with confidence behind him over the entire season, and there are no surprises that Juventus want to keep him.

Rabiot has so far turned down their advances. He has no plans of renewing on similar wages, and prefers to pursue a new challenge with a better salary proposal.

United were reluctant to meet his €10 million per year wage demands last summer which was justifiable, considering he had come off a poor league campaign.

However, they could be tempted to meet his requirements this time around. While there is no transfer fee involved, Rabiot may expect a sizeable signing-on bonus.

In our view, Rabiot would be a solid upgrade on Fred with better creativity, tackling skills and ability to win regular duels. He would represent a good piece of business.

Fred looks set to leave United this summer amid interest from Fulham. United could easily fund Rabiot’s signing-on fee with his exit but may need to act fast.

They can’t wait for Fred’s departure before pursuing a move for Rabiot. It could be too late as clubs such as Newcastle United could pounce on his availability.
