‘Where would you play him?’: Andy Cole questions United’s interest in 25-year-old midfielder

The discussion surrounding Manchester United in the ongoing January transfer window has largely revolved around midfielders as the club, and the fans, expect Paul Pogba to leave Old Trafford by the summer.

Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola had told Tuttosport last month that his time at United has come to an end and, with the constant criticism the Frenchman has received since then, there is little hope that he would stick at the English club for long.

But the big question is – who will United bring in to replace Pogba? According to a recent report from Daily Mail, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still interested in bringing in Jack Grealish.

The Aston Villa star was one of Solskjaer’s targets in the summer, but the deal could not go through. If United want to bring him in, they would have to spend approximately £100 million. Former United striker Andy Cole thinks Grealish is not the player the club should target.

“I think Grealish is a super player,” Cole told talkSPORT. “I’m not going to sit here and say anything different. But I’m looking at Manchester United’s midfield at the moment, where would you play him?”

“You look at Bruno [Fernandes], the performances he’s putting in; that’s the position [Grealish] likes to play in. If you put him off the left, [Marcus] Rashford plays there… so where would you play him again?

“But I’m a mere mortal when it comes to things like this. I’m like everybody else from the outside looking in.”

Meanwhile, United confirmed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Amad Diallo from Atlanta on Thursday.
