Manchester United have agreed to sell England international centre-back Harry Maguire to West Ham United for £30 million, according to The Athletic.
The Red Devils spent £80m to recruit the 30-year-old from Leicester City in 2019 and have gladly accepted to sell him for a £50m loss.
Maguire fell out of favour under manager Erik ten Hag last term, featuring in just 16 Premier League games. He was recently stripped of the captaincy.
The Englishman is behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order.
Ten Hag’s decision to make Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes the skipper spelt the end of his career at the Old Trafford club.
Maguire will now look to get his career back on track at West Ham, having been warned by England manager Gareth Southgate that limited playing time at club level could affect his chances with the national team.
The Hammers need quality options at the back after struggling last term, and Maguire will fancy his chances of walking into David Moyes’ starting XI.
Man United are getting a decent fee for the centre-back and will now focus on selling other players not in their plans for the new season.
West Ham are also keen on Red Devils midfielder Scott McTominay, but their £30m bid has been knocked back as the Red Devils want £45m and the Hammers could return with an improved offer.
Man United have signed Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund. They are expected to sell Eric Baily and Fred, having already sold Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga.
Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams could also be sold as the Red Devils look to raise funds for more arrivals, with Fiorentina defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat a top target.
