West Ham United have opened talks with Manchester United over the signing of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, according to talkSPORT.
The 26-year-old featured in 30 games across all competitions last term, playing in both full-back positions. However, he is not in Erik ten Hag’s plans.
The Hammers, who are long-term admirers, are looking to lure him to the London Stadium in the coming weeks.
Man United are in the market for a new left-back despite Luke Shaw’s recovery from injury and Tyrell Malacia’s return to individual training after he spent the whole of last season on the sidelines.
The Red Devils have virtually wrapped up a deal for Lille centre-back Leny Yoro, while Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof remain available at right-back.
As a result, it appears Wan-Bissaka is surplus to requirements, and a good offer from suitors could be enough to tempt Man United into selling him.
The former Crystal Palace star is in the final 12 months of his contract at the Old Trafford club after they activated the option to extend his deal to 2025 in January.
The deal was set to expire at the end of last season, but Man Utd held an option to extend it by a further 12 months, which they triggered heading into the second half of the campaign.
West Ham’s new manager Julen Lopetegui is a fan of Wan-Bissaka.
The former England youth international joined the Red Devils from Palace in 2019 and made 190 appearances across all competitions, weighing in with two goals and 13 assists.
Ten Hag needs a full-back capable of contributing more in the final third, and Wan-Bissaka is not that type of player despite his defensive qualities.
Man United want to make more quality recruitment this summer but will need to sell first, and cashing in on the Englishman could come in handy even if they will not be getting a huge fee by selling him.
