West Ham expected to go back in for Maguire and McTominay after Alvarez deal

West Ham United are expected to step up their interest in signing Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay after finalising a deal for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.

The Hammers have not announced any player arrival during this summer’s transfer window, but they are expected to be very active over the next few weeks.

Earlier today, the club reached an agreement with Ajax to sign Alvarez for £34 million. He is scheduled to travel to London in the next 24 hours for his medical.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has now revealed that the Hammers are ‘expected to go back in‘ for United duo Maguire and McTominay in the coming days.

United open to selling British duo at the right price

Maguire has been a fringe player under manager Erik ten Hag over the past year. He made just 16 starts across all competitions during the 2022/23 campaign.

United are currently interested in signing Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo but for that to happen, they need to funds. A deal is dependent on Maguire leaving.

The Hammers recently failed with a £20m bid for the 30-year-old, and it has been reported that a package in north of £30m could persuade United to part ways with him.

David Moyes is said to be eager to work with the former Leicester City star, and we won’t be surprised if the London outfit meet United’s demands in the near future.

Meanwhile, McTominay could be a more expensive signing for the Hammers, considering he is in the prime of his career at 26. United are not actively looking to sell him.

United boss Erik ten Hag would be happy to keep the Scot at the club, but an exit could considered by the hierarchy if they receive a minimum offer of around £40m.

The club have already identified a replacement in the form of Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat. He has recently agreed personal terms. A formal bid could be made soon.
