Wayne Rooney makes his stance clear on Man United striker Benjamin Sesko after two goals

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has made feelings clear on new striker Benjamin Sesko after his goal against Sunderland last Saturday.

Sesko moved to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £73.6 million this summer.

He struck United’s second in the 2-0 win over the Black Cats, a moment that eased some of the pressure on Ruben Amorim.

Rooney praised the 22-year-old for using his body well to win challenges.

He said (via BBC Sport): “I think he’s a handful, and he uses his body well.

“He challenges for balls, and it makes it easier for Mbeumo, Cunha when he’s on, or Mount to make runs in behind him. So I think that’s clearly something they’ve worked on.

“And obviously getting another goal, I think, will help him. So, I think for all the players, the win was massive.”

Rooney was one of the best strikers of his generation for both United and England.

Any praise from him carries huge weight.

Sesko got off the mark in a United shirt against Brentford late last month but was unable to secure three points for his side.

This time, with his first goal at Old Trafford, his strike proved decisive in sealing three points.

United have long been searching for a true centre-forward with ruthless instincts in front of goal.

Sesko could play twice for Slovenia in the upcoming international break before leading the line against arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

A goal there would put him in the history books, as no United striker has scored at Anfield in the last nine years.

Finding the net on Merseyside would be a huge confidence boost, silencing the Kop and cementing his status as United’s new talisman.
