Virgil Van Dijk comments on Donny Van de Beek joining Manchester United

Transfer mogul Fabrizio Romano confirms that Manchester United are signing Donny Van de Beek very soon. The Dutchman will join United for a fee of around €40m and will sign a contract until 2025. Van de Beek is expected to reach United’ medical facilities and will be officially announced soon.

The Dutch captain, Virgil Van Dijk has wished his compatriot, Donny Van de Beek over his move to Manchester United. Despite the age-old rivalry amongst his club and United, Virgil had nothing but praise and well wishes for the 23-year-old midfielder.

“I wish Donny all the best wholeheartedly,” said Van Dijk in a press conference ahead of the international games against Poland and Italy.

“It is great for him and for the Dutch national team.

“It’s a great club and step for Donny, and the same goes for Nathan Ake [to Manchester City].”

The 23-year-old has been a standout star for Ajax and Solskjaer has beaten several top teams to his signature. Real Madrid were believed to be seriously interested, while Tottenham are said to have made a last-ditch attempt to snatch him away from United.

Van de Beek would not be leaving the Netherlands national team early to finalise his move to Man United, though.

“No, I think it is almost ready,” Netherlands’ interim head coach Dwight Lodeweges said.

“I think there is still a [medical] inspection to go. It will take place.

“I am certainly not going to send Donny home, because he wanted to be here himself. That is also important.”
