Manchester United players returned to training at Carringdon this week following an agreement between the Premier League clubs and officials on Monday that they can participate in small groups providing they obey social distancing rules.
This is stage one of ‘Project Restart’, which is the intention of restarting the 2019-20 Premier League campaign and finishing it this summer.
English football has been suspended since 13 March whilst the rest of the world bar Belarus went down the same path at a similar date due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
France’s Ligue 1 and the Netherlands’ Eredivisie were cancelled indefinitely back in April, whilst Germany’s Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga divisions returned to action last weekend. England, Spain and Italy are aiming for a mid-June return with no confirmed dates as of yet.
Manchester United have been back in training for the past couple of days and the club have now published a video of our players back in training, obeying the new training regime rules. The video can be seen here.
Sessions are currently non-contact and are allowed to last a maximum of 75 minutes in groups of five maximum. The video above shows four players and a coach passing the ball around as our players look to rebuild their fitness levels this week, with the Premier League aiming to intensify the training in about a week’s time.
Manchester United players and staff underwent coronavirus tests last weekend with all results coming back negative earlier this week.
Should the 2019-20 Premier League season resume next month, our first fixture back is scheduled to be Tottenham Hotspur away. We sit three points outside of the Champions League places with nine games to go.
