Manchester United ran out comfortable 2-0 wins at Newcastle United on Wednesday night to make it four wins in as many games for caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solkjaer.
Romelu Lukaku broke the deadlock with his first touch moments after coming on just after the hour after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka failed to hold onto Marcus Rashford’s long-range free kick.
Rashford put the game to bed with a casual finish in front of Dubravka following an excellent counter-attack move that also involved Lukaku and fellow substitute Alexis Sanchez.
This was only our third clean sheet of the season and David de Gea wasn’t worked very hard at all, though Christian Atsu did get in good positions on numerous occasions.
One moment in the game that left a sour taste on football fans’ mouths was a horror tackle from Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey on Paul Pogba that went unpunished from referee Andre Marriner. As Mr Marriner awarded us the free kick he obviously saw the horrendous kick from Shelvey but the midfielder escaped without a card. Pogba was even warned by the referee for reacting to the nasty foul he had just received.
