Manchester United are widely expected to sign a marquee striker this summer as manager Erik ten Hag looks to transform his squad into genuine challengers for the Premier League title.
A number of names have been linked over the past few months but Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane seem to be among the main targets for the club.
Osimhen and Kane have excelled this season with 21 and 20 goals respectively and it will be interesting to see who United consider signing during this summer’s transfer window.
Who should Man Utd sign this summer?
Kane is obviously a Premier League-proven striker with over 200 goals and he could be available for less than £100 million this summer if Spurs miss out on the Champions League.
The England international will be 30 before the start of next season but he is still in the prime of his career and would make an immediate impact for United if he were to join them.
Meanwhile, Osimhen is nearly six years younger than Kane. The Nigerian star is currently enjoying the best-ever scoring season in his career and should only improve in future.
As per reports, Napoli are likely to hold out for £133 million for the 24-year-old which would be a huge outlay for United, considering they may want to bolster other positions too.
In our opinion, both strikers would fit into the club’s plans next season but Kane could be regarded as a short-term fix. He could show signs of regression over coming seasons.
Osimhen, on the other hand, is just entering the peak of his career and would be a quality long-term acquisition. The former Lille man may take more time to adapt than Kane.
The final decision could rest on the shoulders of Erik ten Hag. We have already seen that the manager is not averse to the idea of landing experienced stars, Casemiro being a prime example.
