Louis Van Gaal has told Manchester United to sell David De Gea before the end of the transfer window, as the Dutchman looks to put an end to the transfer saga.
The Spaniard has been a long-time target for Real Madrid but United have refused to sell him, even though De Gea has only 12 months left on his current deal and has made clear he’s not interested in signing a new contract at Old Trafford.
A number of publications, including the Guardian and the Mirror, claim the United manager has grown frustrated with the impasse surrounding the Spaniard and has instructed the club to let him go in this transfer window.
Over the last two months, Van Gaal and Ed Woodward have not budged from their stance of keeping De Gea at all costs, indicating that unless Real were prepared to include Sergio Ramos in a deal, the former Atletico Madrid man would remain in Manchester.
However, with Real Madrid’s new captain penning a contract extension with the 10-time European Cup winners, United now run the risk of ending up without Ramos and without De Gea.
“We have a situation that is not favourable for David De Gea but neither for us and neither for the club [Real Madrid] that maybe he wants to go [to],” Van Gaal said after United’s 2-0 defeat against PSG.
United have brought in former Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero on a free transfer and still have Victor Valdes and Anders Lindegaard on their books, but neither seems good enough to be trusted as De Gea’s replacement.
