Van Gaal unfazed by boos

Manchester-United-vs-CSKA-Moscow-Champions-League-group-stageLouis Van Gaal said he was unfazed by the criticism aimed at his decision of replacing Anthony Martial and keeping faith with Wayne Rooney on Tuesday night.

The United manager’s decision to replace the Frenchman with Marouane Fellaini halfway through the second half with the score still 0-0 was soundly booed by a large section of fans. However, Van Gaal feels his decision was vindicated as Rooney secured United’s winner shortly afterward.

“Of course I heard that, I’m not deaf,” he said when asked about the crowd’s reaction to his first substitution.

“That is the opinion of the fans but afterwards they shall not be disappointed by the decision of the manager.”

The United manager admitted he was relieved to see his side get all the three points on Tuesday night, as they now lead the group going into the final two matches of the group stage.

“It is a relief because you have seen an attacking Manchester United creating a lot of chances against a very good, organised team, and it is always difficult to score goals,” he added.

“We had to wait a long time. We controlled the match for 89 minutes but one minute we didn’t control and we could have been defeated again.

“If Doumbia scores, it is before the goal we score and then I am sitting here very differently. But I think we totally deserved it.
