Van Gaal praises team spirit

JS57007385Louis Van Gaal praised Manchester United’s team spirit after his side overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat Preston 3-1 on Monday night, securing a spot in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

After a sluggish first 45 minutes, United fell behind early in the second half but rallied to recover through goals from Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and a late Wayne Rooney penalty and the United manager was particularly pleased with his team’s reaction.

“Yes [the second half pleased me] but in the first half I was also reasonably satisfied,” Van Gaal told BBC One in his post-match interview.

“We didn’t give anything away, even though it’s difficult.

“In the second half, the goal was unlucky. After then we showed the team spirit is unbelievable.

“We changed the shape, that was the solution I think. We scored fantastic goals, little bit lucky also. The second one for Fellaini – we have trained for that – I was pleased for Valencia.”

Van Gaal was also full of praise for Fellaini, who scored his fourth goal in 17 appearances this season and looked United’s best option up-front.

“He scores all sorts of goals. I played him for the first time in the position he wants. I don’t always have a position for him, that’s my problem,” said the United manager.
