Van Gaal Explains Reasons for his Failure at Manchester United

Louis van Gaal has slammed the top boffins at Manchester United by claiming that he was never delivered his key transfer targets. Van Gaal came to Old Trafford in 2014 as the replacement for David Moyes.

The Dutchman was seen as a crucial signing, as it meant a return to a proven name, who could help United attract the top signings after a disappointing season under David Moyes.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager remained in charge for two years, but his spell was largely unsuccessful since the quality of football deteriorated very badly.

Even though the Dutchman did help the club to the first trophy – FA Cup success – after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, his entire spell was branded as a failure.

This was down to the significant spends in the transfer market, as United incurred heavy losses on players like Angel di Maria. Yet, Van Gaal has opened up on the transfer strategy of United.

According to Goal.com, Van Gaal said:

“Manchester United did not have the qualities to become champions and had an outdated selection with 10 players over 30, five over 35.

“So I told them I was going to rejuvenate and which players should come. I didn’t get one of those. A turnover of £600 million and can’t buy the players you need. You should buy number one and not number seven.”
