Valencia issues apology

Manchester United's Ecuadorian midfieldeAntonio Valencia has publicly apologised for his display against Arsenal on Monday night, which contributed in no small part to Manchester United getting knocked out from the FA Cup.

The Ecuadorian, whose performance was described as “disgraceful” by former United captain Roy Keane, took to social media to apologise to the fans and to his teammates for his horrendous display against Arsenal.

Valencia left Nacho Monreal unmarked for Arsenal’s opener, gifted Danny Welbeck the winner with a catastrophic back pass that sold David De Gea short and looked his usual, mono-dimensional self with the ball at his feet.

“I want to apologise to my team-mates and the fans of Manchester United,” he wrote on his official Facebook page.

“Tomorrow is another day and keep working.”

The Ecuador international was not, by any means, the only culprit in Monday’s defeat but his performances have left a lot to be desired over the last couple of seasons and if United are to improve next year they must surely consider replacing with a more adequate right-back.
