Manchester United want Real Madrid to include Sergio Ramos in any deal for David De Gea, if the Spanish giants are to secure the services of the 24-year-old.
De Gea has long been linked with a return to his hometown as the 10-time European Cup winners look for a replacement for Iker Casillas, but while the Spaniard seems determined to leave United this summer, Real were reportedly set to offer only £13m for the former Atletico Madrid man.
While De Gea has only 12 months left on his deal, United are understood to want a lot more money for their keeper, who won the club’s player of the season award in the last two seasons, and have now told Real they want Sergio Ramos in exchange for De Gea.
According to the Guardian, the 29-year-old defender, who has an official buyout clause of €180m (£128m) and is under contract at the Bernabéu until in July 2017, has been identified by Louis Van Gaal as the right man to bolster United’s shaky back four.
United have notoriously failed to get a good deal when negotiating with Real Madrid in the past, with David Beckham and Ruud Van Nisterlooy sold for a cut-price, while the £80m United received for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 look like a bargain now.
Ramos, who has played 128 times for Spain, has been at Real Madrid for a decade and has made over 400 appearances for the club, although there have been hints of tension between him and the club over the last couple of months.
