United talisman keen to extend deal

van-persie-swanseaAfter a summer of disappointment, United fans might at last have something to cheer about as Robin Van Persie has announced that he’s keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond the remaining years of his current contract.

The Dutchman, who arrived from Arsenal for £24m in August 2012 and signed a four-year deal, won the Golden Boot in his first season at the club, proving a crucial factor in United’s title winning campaign and becoming the number one striker at the club.

Having started the season in fine form scoring three goals in the first four league games as well as the two goals that secured United a 2-0 win in the Community Shield against Wigan, Van Persie was rumoured to be unhappy with David Moyes’ methods, a notion the former Arsenal striker then dismissed himself.

Talking to Paddy Crerand in an exclusive interview with MUTV, Van Persie declared his intention to remain at Manchester United for the rest of his career.

“I have three more years to go and I would like to stay longer,” the 30-year-old said. “I know, and I see people around me, making decisions where I think these guys will look back and say ‘was that a good one?’. I don’t want that.

“I want to play as long as possible at the highest level.”

Despite arriving in England in 2004 the Dutchman’s only trophy in English football prior to last season’s Premier League title was the FA Cup he won in 2005, incidentally against United, and RVP has revealed his hunger for more trophies is matched by the club’s winning attitude.

“That (winning trophies) is what it is all about,” said Van Persie. “Last year we got one trophy in four. Now we have to look at it from the opposite side.

At long last, some positive news.
