United star set for new five-year deal

1203791-25145109-2560-1440David De Gea is set to have his wages doubled as Manchester United are reportedly ready to offer the Spanish keeper a new five-year deal worth £120,000-a-week.

News of the new deal, which according to the Daily Mirror will be offered to the Spaniard before Christmas, comes as speculation linking Real Madrid with a move for the 23-year-old intensified over the last couple of days.

De Gea has been instrumental for United this season, his heroics against Everton securing United’s first back-to-back wins this season, and has proved an increasingly important figure for the club since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and, on Sunday, he displaced Iker Casillas from Spain’s starting XI.

Casillas’ increasingly shaky form for club and country has prompted Real Madrid to look out for alternatives, with the European champions rumoured to be considering a £25m offer for De Gea, who is out of contract in 2016.

A new five-year deal would strengthen United’s position, for it’s almost impossible to imagine Louis Van Gaal would be happy to part ways with one of the best goalkeepers in the world, regardless of the amount of money that might be on offer.
