A broken plane, a broken dream, a broken heart, a broken team, no word said, a silent vow, we loved you then, we love you now.
Off the back of an emotional week United take what will undoubtedly be a difficult trip to London for Sunday’s fixture against West Ham. It will be important to play with the spirit of those lost on that bleak February night.
With minds clear, but hearts strong, whoever walks out onto that pitch on Sunday afternoon must remember the jersey they wear and for whom they wear it.
The players must be particularly grateful for their chance to represent Manchester United Football Club, as the darkest day of United’s history acts as a reminder that you never know when that chance could be taken away.
Manchester United team news
Only Michael Carrick will be out for Sunday’s visit to Upton Park. Ashley Young has returned to full fitness after his cameo against Cambridge United midweek.
Louis Van Gaal will have a slight selection dilemma, which so far has been fairly detrimental, as the injury ravaged United team showed a spirit that the fully fit squad has yet to recreate.
West Ham team news
James Collins and Winston Reid remain out for the hammers. Andy Carroll may also be rested after sustaining a knock to his ankle.
Diafra Sakho will feature after his dispute with the International side.
Key Men
West Ham have the ability to bully anyone who attempts to go toe to toe with them. With a side that has less GCSEs than Steven Gerrard’s favourite DJ and heads thicker than the evidence files in the current David Lee Travis investigation, the onus will be on the centre back pairing
Marcos Rojo has shown massive improvement since the beginning of the season, showing encouraging development with every game, but he will be tested tomorrow.
Many are pleased that Rojo is proving to be nastier than a town under ISIS rule, adding a bit of steel to a fairly flamboyant United team.
Predicted XI
William Dawson
