United make Ramos bid

149944Manchester United have submitted a formal bid for Sergio Ramos, as they seek to capitalise on the Spaniard’s desire to leave Real Madrid this summer.

According to the Telegraph, United have officially contacted the 10-time European Cup winners with a bid of over £30m for the defender, who has played over 400 games for Real Madrid since joining the club from Sevilla 10 years ago.

United, the Telegraph adds, are adamant they will not pay the £46m Real are expected to ask for Ramos, whose contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in 2017 and who has a buyout clause worth €180m (£128m), nor do they intend to give the Spanish giants cash and David De Gea to sign the defender.

On Wednesday, Ramos told Real Madrid he wanted to leave this summer, after the club failed to offer him an improved contract, which has encouraged United to pursue the 29-year-old immediately, as Louis Van Gaal looks to bolster his defensive options.
