Neymar’s dad has confirmed that Manchester United did submit a bid to Barcelona during the transfer window last summer.
In the final weeks of the transfer window, rumours suggesting United might be plotting a sensational move for the Brazil striker intensified, as Ed Woodward and Louis Van Gaal looked to secure a star signing before the transfer deadline.
While the rumours were dismissed as ridiculous, particularly as United had seemingly pulled the plug on the deal that was meant to bring Pedro to Old Trafford, it has now emerged that Barcelona received an offer for Neymar.
“Man United’s offer came to Barça and they told us they won’t sell,” said the Brazilian’s dad.
“They asked if we were interested but that wasn’t the case.
“Barcelona does not want to sell Neymar because he has a three year contract.”
According to Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte, United submitted a £130m bid for the striker, which would have broken the world record’s fee Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale two years ago.
