Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis has opened the door to joining Manchester United amid the long-term interest from Crystal Palace.
The Greek international was a top target for the Eagles last summer. They offered to pay around £28 million, but Brugge rejected the transfer proposal.
Tzolis was also content to stay for another season, and he has proved his worth with 21 goals and 28 assists from 51 appearances in all competitions.
Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad today, Tzolis said that he would refuse a move to Palace this summer.
He added that United could convince him, and it would be ‘hard to say no’ if the Red Devils make an approach to land his signature from Brugge.
He said: “In that case, I would refuse [If Palace return for him]. The Crystal Palace train has already left the station for me.
“United could convince me [when asked about United]. Such a massive club with so much history. It would be hard to say no to that.”
United could consider a move for Tzolis
The 24-year-old has had an extraordinary season with Brugge in Belgium.
He has made a staggering 49 goal contributions from 51 matches across all competitions.
Despite his glowing statistics, the standard of the Pro League is far lower than that of the Premier League.
Belgium are only eighth in the UEFA coefficient rankings for the last five years behind Portugal and the Netherlands. England are right at the top with a comfortable margin.
Meanwhile, United are craving for a specialist left winger to compete with Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu. Tzolis could emerge as a potential target for the role this summer.
The Greek previously spent one season in the English top-flight (2021/22) with Norwich City. He joined as a teenager back then and did not score or assist in his 328 league minutes.
In the same season, Tzolis scored two goals and registered two assists in a League Cup game against Bournemouth. He never realised his full potential at Norwich, but has done so with Brugge.
Brugge currently want more than their record-selling fee (£31 million) to part ways with their prized asset. United could make a move for Tzolis based on the feedback from manager Michael Carrick.
Carrick was appointed as the permanent head coach yesterday and could have a big say on the transfer business. It has been reported that he wants to bring in Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.
