Manchester United have edged increasingly close to secure the signing of Barcelona forward Pedro, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for over a week now, as Louis Van Gaal looks to bolster his attacking options, particularly given Angel Di Maria looks set to complete a move to PSG before the end of the transfer window.
According to Sport, United have made a first €25m (£18m) offer for the Spain international, who scored against United when the two sides met in the Champions League final in 2011, but Barcelona are determined to hold on on their player, unless United trigger Pedro’s €30m (£22m) release clause.
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique insisted he wanted to keep the forward at the club next season, but the Spanish giants have already lowered Pedro’s release clause from £109m to £22m, while Marca adds Barcelona would only agree to sell the 27-year-old if he submitted a formal transfer request.
Last week, Spanish newspaper Marca claimed Pedro had told his teammates he wanted to leave this summer, with United his preferred destination.
The report followed claims for Sergio Busquets, who revealed he had a conversation with the 27-year-old over his future and admitted his teammate could leave the club during the transfer window, as he seeks to play regularly after being confined on the sidelines by the arrival of Luis Suarez.
