Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino, according to reports
The Brazilian midfielder was surprisingly linked with a move to Old Trafford on Thursday afternoon and things looked to have moved on since, with the 23-year-old, who is part of Brazil’s Copa America squad reportedly set to join Louis Van Gaal’s side for approximately £13m.
The United manager has made clear he wants to bolster his midfield options, although the Brazilian would be a surprise signing, given United were thought to be considering other options.
“Firmino has been consistently loyal to Hoffenheim, and he surprised a few people by agreeing a new deal last March. He feels the club has helped him develop as a player, but after Hoffenheim failed to qualify for Europe, it seems like the right time to move on,” Bundesliga expert Kevin Hatchard told talkSPORT.
“He’s been on United’s radar for a long time, and they’ll have been impressed by his ability to have a positive impact on games week-in week-out.
“If United get him for the figures being quoted, they’ll have pulled off a big coup.”
Firmino, who scored 12 goals and 10 assists as Hoffenheim missed out on Europa League qualification, can operate in a number of position in midfield and has been making a name for himself in the Brazil squad, scoring three times in six appearances.
