Manchester United suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford last Sunday.
Most of the players produced an underwhelming performance, but Casemiro received the most criticism.
The Brazilian was at fault for the Reds’ opening two goals, and his overall display was abysmal.
He lost possession on 14 occasions and won just two of his five ground duels.
However, former United star Nicky Butt isn’t happy with the recent criticism of Casemiro, which he thinks is unfair.
Butt told the Manchester Evening News: “He’s an unbelievable footballer. He’s won everything there is to win in the game.
“I think [the criticism] is a bit unfair. He’s had one horrendous half, and everyone is turning against him.
“I think it’s a bit harsh, he knows what he is doing. He’s won more things than I ever did, so I wouldn’t sit here and say he’s this, that and the other.
“But he did have a bad game – I’m sure he’s had a few before, we all have.”
Casemiro arrived at Manchester United in a deal worth up to £70 million in 2022.
He enjoyed an impressive first season at Old Trafford, but his levels dropped last term as he struggled with injuries.
United wanted to cut ties with the Brazilian this summer but have failed to find a buyer.
Casemiro is one of the highest earners at the club, and his salary is proving to be a big stumbling block in the way of a deal.
He has been linked with a move to the Turkish Super Lig, but a transfer looks unlikely as he has been included in United’s Europa League squad.
