Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has been a solid performer for the club since his move from Crystal Palace last summer.
The 22-year-old has spent only eight months with the Red Devils but based on his performances, he has given the impression that he has been playing for the club for multiple seasons.
The right-back has hugely impressed with the defensive side of his game and he has averaged nearly four tackles during the course of the current Premier League campaign.
In a Q&A session on Instagram, Ferdinand spoke about Wan-Bissaka’s exceptional defensive abilities and suggested that the Englishman should be deployed in a back three for United in the future.
“One-versus-one he will match you physically, he will run with you, he will slide on the floor if you’re getting away from him a little bit more and he has to go into overdrive,” he told as relayed by Metro.
“He can cover people, unbelievable. He could play right side of a back three at Man United if they wanted to, I think he’d be brilliant there.”
Wan-Bissaka did not make much of an impact in an attacking point of view during the opening months of the season as he struggled to get crosses into the box for the frontmen.
However, he has shown an improvement as the season has progressed and has provided a couple of assists – one of which came during the 2-0 Premier League win at Chelsea last month.
Still, his primary job remains to restrict the opponent from getting into scoring positions and he has managed to effectively limit the threat, barring a few occasions where he has mistimed his sliding challenges.
