Tyrell Malacia has said that he loves playing alongside another new Manchester United boy Lisandro Martinez.
Malacia and Martinez joined the Red Devils in the summer from Feyenoord and Ajax respectively.
They have started in three Premier League games together, winning all three.
In an interview with ManUtd.com, Malacia was asked about his bond with Martinez.
He responded, “We speak a lot with each other about football and he’s a good guy.
“He’s a great defender and gives us good energy. You saw that in the game against Liverpool also, so I love to work with him.”
When quizzed if Martinez is a warrior off the pitch as well, he added: “No! He’s a little bit quiet. He smiles and talks a lot [on the pitch] but he’s not like that off the field.”
Martinez and Malacia winning over the Man United fans
One characteristic that the new duo brings to the team is their passion for defending.
They celebrate tackles and blocks. They press with high intensity to steal the ball from the opposition.
The energy they bring to the team is infectious and helps the players to keep their heads in the game at all times.
These are the attributes which United fans haven’t seen for a while now.
It was their robust defending against Southampton and Leicester City which helped them to maintain clean sheets.
Malacia has moved ahead of Luke Shaw in the pecking order on the left-hand side of the defence.
Martinez’s warrior-like performances have forced Erik ten Hag to bench club captain Harry Maguire.
Both players are well-known to the Dutchman from his time in Amsterdam.
He knows that they fit his high-intensity playing style perfectly.
The defensive duo are expected to face a big test against Arsenal on Sunday.
The Gunners are currently flying high after winning all five games this term, which makes Sunday’s clash intriguing.
