Tuanzebe and James start, Predicted Man United lineup (4-2-3-1) to face Newcastle United

Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways when they face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday. The Red Devils recently played out a disappointing 0-0 draw against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League and that extended their winless streak on the road to 10 games. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, however, have an excellent chance to end their away woes against the Magpies, who have registered just one victory across all competitions this season.

Team News:

United have received no injury boost from the recent clash against AZ Alkmaar. Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard are some of the first-team stars left out of the travelling squad due to injury setbacks. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has likewise failed to make the Tyneside trip after failing to recover from a bout of tonsillitis.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Lineup:

David de Gea was a surprise selection for the midweek Europa League ahead of Sergio Romero, who is regularly regarded as the Cup goalkeeper. The Spaniard impressed on the personal scale with a clean sheet and he will be expected to start in goal on Sunday.

In the backline, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire should form the central-back partnership for the eighth successive league game. Axel Tuanzebe featured on the left side of the defence against Arsenal on Monday night and he could swap his position with Ashley Young, who started at right-back in the same game.

Scott McTominay has been an ever-present figure in the starting XI under Solskjaer and he was undoubtedly the standout player in the previous gameweek where he scored a stunning long-range goal to open the scoring at Old Trafford.

The Scotland international could be accompanied by Nemanja Matic in the centre of the park. Both Matic and Fred struggled to control the game against AZ Alkmaar in midweek but the latter’s prospects of starting on Sunday appear slim with Solskjaer restricting him to just three bench appearances in the league.

Further forward, Solskjaer may go with a similar attack force from the Gunners clash with only one change. Jesse Lingard, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, could be replaced by Juan Mata in the number 10 position.
