Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals his reaction when Manchester United lifted the Carabao Cup

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed that he switched off the game when Manchester United were about to lift the Carabao Cup.

The Reds face United at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday and will not find things easy against the resurgent visitors.

The Red Devils are thriving under Erik ten Hag, having won their first silverware in six years. Jurgen Klopp’s team have struggled this season and are in danger of missing out on the Champions League.

The out-of-form defender admits he couldn’t watch United celebrating the Carabao Cup triumph.

He told The Telegraph: “I watched the game, but as soon as they were getting ready for the trophy lift I turned off. I thought, ‘there is no way I am watching that’.

“Knowing they lifted that trophy? It burns. Oh yeah. It definitely burns. It shows you how football changes very quickly.

“Even the start of this season when they lost to Brentford. How many people were saying ‘here we go again?’ Now they’re flying. It happens.

“That is why I am not going to allow myself to get over-consumed with what has happened to us right now because I know in a few months, or possibly even weeks, it will change.”

Manchester United head to Anfield as favourites

Liverpool have enjoyed some success under Klopp. They have played eye-catching football and deservedly won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

However, things have gone haywire this campaign. Long-term injuries to key players have impacted their form, and they are struggling to keep pace with the top teams.

Man United will head into tonight’s encounter as favourites to win. This highlights United’s transformation under Ten Hag.

The Red Devils have not won at Anfield since January 2016. A victory today would not only complete the double over their rivals but also demonstrate that United have knocked Liverpool off their perch.
