Manchester United will be looking to climb up the table with a win when they take on Tottenham in North London on Sunday afternoon.
It’s been a hugely disappointing campaign for the Red Devils but they did manage to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a rather fortunate 2-1 win over Leicester City last Friday night. The Foxes took the lead just before half-time before Joshua Zirkzee levelled things up mid-way through the second period.
Leicester more than held their own at Old Trafford and looked to have taken the game into extra-time. However, Harry Magurie headed home in the 93rd minute to make it 2-1. Replays showed the centre-back was offside but with no VAR in the early rounds of the FA Cup, United got away with it to progress to the next round.
Ruben Amorim will hope to use that good fortune as a catalyst to improve on their league form. Man Utd slumped to a hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace last time out in the Premier League making it five defeats and just two wins in their last eight league games.
That run has left United sitting 13th in the table on just 29 points – 14 points adrift of the top four – so Amorim will be desperate to get back to winning ways and climb up the table with victory over Spurs.
However, Tottenham are also in dire need of a positive result as they too have endured a nightmare season. The North Londoners sit two points behind United in 14th place despite winning 2-0 away to Brentford last time out in the Premier League. That win ended a run of seven games without a win in the league.
The pressure on Ange Potecoglou has increased after Tottenham were dumped out of both domestic cup competitions in the last week. A 4-0 hammering at Anfield saw Liverpool progress to the EFL Cup final while Spurs went down 2-1 away to Aston Villa in the FA Cup at the weekend, so they’ll be hoping to bounce back with a win over United on Sunday.
How to watch
The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event at 4.30pm on Sunday 16th February. Subscribers can follow all the action on their TV or via the Sky Go app.
Match going supporters can try to buy tickets from the official club websites but they are most likely sold out. Therefore, you can check out an online retailer such as Go Sport Travel as they offer some excellent packages.
Team news
Manchester United will be without Lisandro Martinez for the rest of the season after he sustained an ACL injury. Jonny Evans is also set to miss the visit to Spurs with a lower back issue.
Mason Mount is still working his way back from a thigh injury that’s kept him out so far in 2025. Luke Shaw will need to be assessed as he felt a minor problem in his calf so Amorim doesn’t want to take any chances given his long injury history.
As for Spurs, they won’t be able to count on Dominic Solanke as he’s out with a knee injury while Wilson Odobert is also missing due to a thigh problem.
Cristian Romero is on the sidelines with a thigh injury and while Tottenham hope to have him back later this month, he’ll still miss the game against United this weekend.
Radu Draguisin is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury while Micky van de Ven will need a fitness test as Spurs manage his load following thigh issues. Richarlison is expected to miss out with a calf injury.
Predicted score
This is a game between two Premier League heavyweights who have struggled badly this season. Both sides are desperately needing a win to get their campaign going and defeat for either side would pile the pressure on their beleaguered manager.
It’s usually an exciting game when Man Utd play Tottenham so hopefully there are lots of goals at the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
It’s hard to predict a result as you don’t know what you’ll get with United this season, and the same can be said of Spurs. Therefore, I’m going to sit on the fence and go with a 2-2 draw.
