Three ways Man Utd could line up after Casemiro suspension blow

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro picked up his second red card of the Premier League season during Sunday’s goalless draw against Southampton at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian will now be suspended for the next four domestic matches. The Red Devils will have to find the right balance without him as mentioned by Raphael Varane.

Here are three ways United could line up in midfield after Casemiro’s suspension

Scott McTominay to partner Fred

Scott McTominay and Fred were United’s trusted midfield pairing in the last few seasons. Though not always reliable, the duo have shone on several occasions and tend to fare better in the big games.

With the first-choice duo of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen (injured) on the sidelines, manager Erik ten Hag could revive the partnership. McTominay has a golden chance to salvage his United career.

Marcel Sabitzer alongside Fred

Sabitzer and Fred played together in three domestic games last month when Casemiro was suspended. The duo were quite good from their deep lying midfield positions for the Red Devils.

If Sabitzer is available after his short-term injury, Ten Hag could be tempted to reunite the duo again. The Austrian has the ideal opportunity to step up and earn himself a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

Something similar to Sunday

A third alternative could be a contentious one. Similar to Sunday, Ten Hag could opt to play Bruno Fernandes in central midfield with Fred or McTominay operating in the number six role.

This would require the standing captain to show more defensive responsibility. Jadon Sancho will probably get the nod in the attacking midfield position, similar to yesterday’s meeting against the Saints.
