Manchester United welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford for Saturday’s Premier League clash.
Ahead of the game, manager Ruben Amorim has provided an update on the first-team squad.
The Red Devils were without Casemiro due to suspension last weekend against Brentford. Amad Diallo missed the same game due to family bereavement.
Both players were back in full training earlier this week. Speaking to MUTV, Amorim said that the pair are ‘really important’ ahead of tomorrow’s league meeting.
The Portuguese tactician added that Casemiro brings a wealth of experience to the setup, while Amad provides an extra attacking threat in one-on-one situations.
Amorim said: “They are really important. Casemiro gives us a lot of experience. That is good. Amad, we missed Amad in the last game.
“When we want to push some opponents, he is one extra guy where he is very good in one against one. So we are really happy to have him.”
Casemiro has had more minutes in the starting XI ahead of Manuel Ugarte this year. The Brazil international has earned praise from the manager for his transformation.
Hence, we won’t be surprised if he is reinstated into the starting XI ahead of Ugarte in the no.6 role.
Similarly, Amad could come into the line-up at right wing-back ahead of Diogo Dalot, who had a tough outing against the Bees, having returned from a calf injury last month.
The Portuguese won just one duel and lost possession on 15 occasions. Barring one quality cross into the box, Dalot struggled to provide an attacking outlet behind Bryan Mbeumo.
Amad is a right winger by trade, and he will naturally possess an attacking mindset. United need to go on the attack from the off tomorrow. The Ivorian looks poised to start over Dalot.
Amorim is not close to being sacked, but anything other than a win over the Black Cats this weekend could increase speculation over his future during the international break.
