After Wednesday night’s magnificent win and performance it’s back to the bread & butter of the Academy League as United make the trip to West Bromich Albion to face a team they beat 2-1 back in November at Carrington.
West Brom also come into this game off the back of a win in the 4th round of the FA Youth Cup, they travelled to The Madjeski Stadium and beat Reading 2-1 with two goals from Alex Jones securing the victory.
With Jones and Adil Nabi both finding the net in recent fixtures, finding the net isn’t a problem for the Baggies and barring a loss away to Crewe after the Christmas break they would be unbeaten since that loss to ourselves in November – so expect a competitive game with the potential for goals.
I expect a few changes today with McGuiness giving players a well needed run out and/or rest. The injury list of Lawrence, Rothwell and Weir might be bigger than that but assuming others have shaken off their short term injuries the squad should look fairly healthy.
Today is also the day…….van Velzen is benched! It’s only a hunch and probably a misguided one but, after being replaced on Wednesday night I just get the impression that the manager is finally losing patience with the lack of production from a player who’s made the most number of appearances for the team.
Predicted Line-Up: Sutherland / Love Dalley McCullough Blackett / Hendrie Rudge / Daehli Januzaj Barmby / Byrne
Bench: Jacob, GvV, Ekangamene, Wilkinson, Wilson
Game kicks off at 11:00am so I better get a move on! No match coverage on MUTV today but highlights probably shown around 5pm.
Updates will get going as soon as I get there but follow @ManUnitedYouth, @thisistheone99 @manutdreserves & @mrmujac for alternatives updates.
