Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hinted that he could continue with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho on the left and right wing respectively going forward.
The Red Devils ended a four-match winless run in all competitions in sublime fashion against Aston Villa. They went 2-0 down at the break against the Villans but made a terrific comeback.
Alejandro Garnacho, who started on the right wing, was the man of the match with two well-taken goals while Rasmus Hojlund ended his long-wait for his maiden Premier League goal.
Marcus Rashford was also lively from his preferred left wing position. The Englishman grabbed an assist for the opening goal and could have had another if Garnacho was not caught offside.
Speaking after the game, Ten Hag was pleased with the performance of Rashford, who impressed with his movement, shots on goal and ability to find his teammates with some quality passes.
The Dutch tactician added that Rashford and Garnacho could play together going forward but also mentioned that the former also has the ability to score from the right side of attack.
He told Manutd.com: “He showed he was not only a threat, but he had key actions: assists, shots on target and scored goals. So yeah, there is also internal competition, but we have to see how we fit them in with togetherness.”
“And today we played Alejandro on the right side, and that can be a solution, but it can also be fluid. But also, I know Rashford will also score from the right side.”
United have temporarily moved to sixth in the standings after the victory over Unai Emery’s side. They now need to build on momentum with another win at Nottingham Forest before the New Year.
This has been the club’s Achilles heel this season. Whenever, they have delivered a strong performance, it has been followed up with an below-par display. The club must avoid another repeat this weekend.
Ten Hag seems to have eventually found his best attack. Rashford, Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund should be the manager’s preferred front four over the coming months.
