Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer has stressed the club’s financial limits internally, reports The Athletic.
Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag wants to bolster his squad this summer after winning the Carabao Cup.
He is privately pushing for options in various positions and getting involved himself.
However, impediments to smooth transfer business remain as sign-off still needs to come from the co-owner.
According to The Athletic, well-placed sources predict Ten Hag’s ambition could meet with Glazer caution and lead to friction if there are delays to the Dutchman’s squad revamp.
A takeover will ideally solve that problem as Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be keen to hit the ground running upon buying Man United.
However, uncertainty continues to grow despite the latest development.
The Qatar Islamic Bank chairman tabled a fifth bid for 100% of the club to the Glazers earlier this week.
Sheikh Jassim has told them that he will engage up until tomorrow.
His bid will stand after the deadline, but there will be no further negotiations.
Offers from both bidders are not at the stage where the Glazers would relinquish control or even loop them in.
As a result, Man United are unlikely to start signing new transfers as soon as possible.
Ten Hag wants new signings recruited before their pre-season tour of the United States in July.
The summer transfer window will open on June 14, and most clubs have already made concrete moves.
Man United started their transfer business much later last summer and the same could be about to repeat itself.
They want to challenge for major trophies next term, and the quality and timing of their signings will have a huge say on their campaign.
