Manchester United paid £60 million to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea in 2023.
However, the 25-year-old has failed to justify his enormous price tag.
The midfielder made only five Premier League starts last term as he struggled with several injury issues.
Mount picked up a knock in United’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last month and has subsequently missed the games against Liverpool and Southampton.
He has returned to full training, but manager Erik ten Hag wants to integrate him carefully into the team.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch boss is really supporting Mount and wants him to be an important member of his team.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “What’s the feeling internally is Mason Mount, he’s been injured for a long time, and Erik ten Hag in his last press conference backed him again.
“Remember Manchester United invested around something around £65 million, then so many injuries, again at the beginning of the season, he was injured and now back in training.
“Erik ten Hag is really supporting Mason Mount. So on a daily basis Ten Hag is talking to the player, he has trust in the player.
“He wants to give him some time to return in the best way possible, not to have any injury problem anymore and to give him the opportunity to play on a regular basis to be consistent and to be back at his level.
“So Ten Hag is especially pushing to give Mount chances and trust him for the long term and have him as an important player at United. The club were very happy with the way he was working in pre-season.”
Mason Mount hasn’t lived up to the fans’ expectations since joining the Manchester club in a huge deal last year.
However, the midfielder has a lot of potential and can still be a success for the Red Devils.
He started the opening two matches for United this campaign. He didn’t contribute a goal or an assist, but his pressing ability was clear.
United seemed to lose some control in the match against Brighton when the 25-year-old was substituted at half-time.
Mount is expected to get many first-team opportunities this season, but he must keep himself fit as injuries have been a big issue.
