Teenage star to reject contract offer amid Man Utd interest

Manchester United are looking at 18-year-old Ajax forward Justin Kluivert, according to reports.

The son of Dutch legend Patrick has established himself as a regular in the first team this season despite his tender age.

We currently have a number of wide players on our books, particularly on the left wing where Justin Kluivert has spent the majority of the season with the Dutch giants.  Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are all competing for this place at Old Trafford, though the latter is strongly linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The Mirror are reporting that Jose Mourinho is interested in the teenager who won his first senior cap for the Dutch national team earlier this year.

What’s more, the report claims that Kluivert is set to reject a new contract offer at the Amsterdam Arena that would make him the highest paid player at the club, amid interest from Manchester United.

However, our former goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, who is now the chief executive officer at Ajax, has urged the youngster to remain at the club for the time being in order to continue his development.  He certainly wouldn’t be guaranteed regular first team football in our squad next season.

Justin Kluivert has scored nine goals in his 29 Eredivisie games for Ajax this season (26 starts) and has five assists to his name.  He has pace and an eye for goal from out wide.

The Mirror do not mention any potential transfer fee nor do they discuss the option to buy the player and loan him back immediately for next season – certainly an option worth considering in order to continue his progress as a professional footballer whilst starting places in our attack are competitive.
