Despite another change of manager and the associated drain on finances at Old Trafford, the 2024/25 Premier League campaign is proving to be another difficult one for Manchester United fans.
Ruben Amorim’s arrival in our dugout already looks like it is taking its toll on the 40 year old former Portuguese international midfielder, and there are plenty of off pitch headlines being created by Sir Jim Ratcliffe with his cost cutting plans, and wider Ineos financial stories, so a nice bit of speculation rumour mill distraction would probably be welcomed by all Red Devils at this moment in time.
With Amorim clearly looking at younger players with a greater development curve as we bring our average age down, and trim off our many high earners, Crystal Palace talent Adam Wharton is the latest player to be linked with a move to us. For those United fans who enjoy online casino gaming, no deposit casino bonus offers are always tempting but carry risks of their own, and the club have taken too many ‘easy option’ signings where a players short term hype has never lived up to their transfer fee.
Wharton could be very different.
The 21 year old first established himself at Blackburn Rovers, and the young lad has gone from strength to strength since arriving at Selhurst Park for a reported £18 million fee back in the January 2024 transfer window. He would have undoubtedly received far more game time under their gaffer Oliver Glasner had it not been for injury that kept him out of action (and required surgery) from November until February, but despite that mini setback, he had been awarded his first senior England cap in June of last year and he was an unused substitute for the 2024 European Championships.
It is being claimed that a number of clubs are actively tracking him now with a view to making formal approaches at the end of the campaign, and we are one of those clubs being heavily linked with the youngster. Italian Serie A giants Juventus are also being given plenty of namechecks as they continue to look for a replacement for former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz who has struggled since he moved to the club.
It should be noted that we have also often been linked with a potential move for the 26 year old 18 capped Brazilian international as well.
With it known that we are looking to move Casemiro on, and many expect it to be Christian Eriksen’s final season at the club as well, potentially capturing Wharton makes sense as given the departures that the club want we will be left short in the middle of the pitch.
Whilst we could certainly expect him to command a smaller wage than many already at Old Trafford, the biggest issue would be the kind of valuation Palace now hold on him as a staring point would have to be at least double the £18 million they originally paid for him.
We could also expect their ask to be significantly higher than that given the length of time remaining on his original contract, and any potential bidding war would only further complicate our chances of landing him.
