Manchester United winger Tahith Chong has joined up with Werder Bremen’s pre-season training camp in Austria after agreeing to a loan move to the Bundesliga club.
The Dutch U21 international signed a new contract with United which keeps him contracted to United until June 2022, with the option to extend the deal by a further year.
Chong is one of several United youth players the club are keen to loan out this season as they look to bridge the gap from under-23s football to the senior game.
Manchester United put out a statement regarding this matter which states:
“Manchester United winger Tahith Chong, a product of the club’s fabled Academy, is set to gain valuable first-team experience in the forthcoming new season by joining Werder Bremen on loan”.
The talented 20-year-old will spend the full 2020/21 campaign in Germany and is expected to make his competitive debut in a month with the Bundesliga due to begin on 18 September.
This loan move is expected to be beneficial for both the player and his parent club, with Chong hoping to get regular game time and the freedom to develop his game whereas Manchester United get a player who has played regular first-team football for a season in Germany’s top flight.
Good luck Chongy!
