We are one week into the 2019 winter transfer window and Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of centre-backs.
It has been a problem position for us this season, backed up by keeping our three clean sheets in our first 21 Premier League games this season. However, back-to-back clean sheets versus Newcastle United and Reading have given us something to build on.
Eric Bailly has recently returned from injury and Victor Lindelof has started to look impressive. Though there’s not much depth after that.
Having already been linked with a move for FC Porto’s Eder Militao and AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas this morning, the Sun are now reporting that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will hold talks with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodard this week to discuss the possible transfer of Nikola Milenkovic to Old Trafford.
The report claims that the 21-year-old is valued at £45 million by his club, Fiorentina. Milenkovic has impressed in a season-and-a-half with the Serie A side, and has also attracted the attention of Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Nikola Milenkovic is strong in the tackle and could easily collect a number of yellow cards in the Premier League as a result (he has 3 in 18 Serie A appearances so far this season) but he is also solid in the air. Given his age, a £45 million deal could prove to be valuable given the potential he has shown and that he has more than a decade left in the game.
