Solskjaer has told Gary Neville which position he wants to strengthen most this summer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed his transfer wishes to Gary Neville as Manchester United prepare to do business this summer, report the Daily Mirror.

The Red Devils have bounced back from a disappointing start to the season that saw them exit the Champions League in the group stage.

Despite that disappointment, United are now leading candidates to win the Europa League and on course to claim a top-four place in the Premier League.

With the 2020/21 campaign approaching the business end, Solskjaer has started to piece together his plans for the upcoming transfer window.

Several high-profile names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Erling Braut Haaland, Jadon Sancho, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.

However, the Norwegian’s priority in the summer is to reinforce his backline and sign a top-class defender to partner Harry Maguire.

Solskjaer has told Neville that he is desperate to snap up one of his prime defensive targets at the end of the season.

Outgoing Real Madrid star Raphael Varane is United’s number one goal for the summer.

The France international has already opened talks with the Red Devils over a potential move and has made it clear to Florentino Perez that he wants to leave Madrid.

However, Varane is not the only defender Solskjaer has in mind heading into the summer.

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Villarreal sensation Pau Torres are also on the gaffer’s shortlist.

The Andalusian outfit are insisting that the Frenchman’s whopping release clause is met in full, which could throw a spanner in the works.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Submarine are said to be willing to accept Eric Bailly as a makeweight in the deal to offload the Spanish centre-half.
