The Premier League football saw its first sacking of the ongoing season earlier this week when West Brom fired Slaven Bilic from the managerial position after a draw against Manchester City. Being a manager of a Premier League club is not an easy task as a few bad results can alter the mood of fans and the management, and can result in the shifting of guards.
Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa carries a solid reputation. The former Argentina manager lifted Leeds from Championship to Premier League within two years. But a few results in England’s top-flight competition have not gone Leeds’ way, and now questions are being raised on Bielsa’s future with the club.
Speaking to Leeds Live ahead of the Manchester United clash this weekend, Bielsa said the pressure is part of the job. At the same time, the former Athletic Bilbao manager praised United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer for handling the pressure well, describing it as his best quality.
“We are all over-observed and this is a situation where no coach is exempt. It increases or decreases depending on the success the team has. It’s part of the job,” Bielsa said.
“Of course, Solskjaer has dealt very well with this aspect we have just spoken about,” he added.
Bielsa, though, insisted that the situation between him and Ole is different as the latter played for several years at Old Trafford and hence enjoys a lot of support from the fans.
“It’s not exactly the same. Solskjaer was a reference for Manchester United. I played two games in the top division.
“Normally, when a player has played for a long time in a team they have the affection of the fans and when they become a manager they have more of their support,” Bielsa said.
Manchester United have been unbeaten in the past six games and will hope to continue their streak when they face off against Leeds United on Sunday at Old Trafford. United are currently placed at the 6th position in the Premier League table and a win would put them in the top four.
