Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has clearly expressed his desire to join Manchester United this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Red Devils are currently on the verge of signing Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. Once the deal is announced, they are likely to focus on landing a defensive midfielder.
Amrabat is the top target for manager Erik ten Hag and it is reported that the 26-year-old has ‘clearly’ expressed his desire to join United behind the scenes.
United are yet to make the ‘right offer’ for the Morocco international, but it is only a ‘matter of time’ before they lodge a formal approach for his services.
Amrabat is currently on his way to England for friendlies against Newcastle United and Nice at St James’ Park, but he is eagerly awaiting to join the Red Devils.
Fiorentina are prepared to sell him for €30 million.
United could make Amrabat approach after more outgoings
Amrabat has developed into one of the best holding midfielders in Serie A. Last season, he completed 90 per cent of his passes with 4.6 long balls per game.
He is not a tough tackler like Casemiro, but has excellent ball control and has the ability to break up play with regular fouls. He should provide quality competition.
Amrabat has already agreed personal terms in principle with United, but a transfer may not materialise until the club offload a couple of midfielders in the coming weeks.
Fred and Donny van de Beek have been put up for sale. The former looks the more likely to head for the exit door with interest from Galatasaray, Fulham among others.
With Amrabat having made his mind up on joining United, the board currently have time on their hands to recoup funds before making a late approach this summer.
