Some Manchester United fans have appreciated the midfield performance from Fred during the club’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.
The Red Devils bowed out of the Cup competition by a 3-2 aggregate defeat on Wednesday night but they still picked up a consolation victory as they beat the Cityzens for the second straight occasion at the Etihad.
Fred, who had his best United performance in the first leg earlier this month, produced another solid showing in the centre of the park with six tackles, two interceptions and two aerial duels won, as per whoscored.
Meanwhile, the Brazil international also managed a couple of take-ons in the Manchester derby and was able to create three of the club’s four chances on the night.
Both him and Matic, who scored the goal, impressed in the central midfield and a section of the United supporters were delighted with his commanding display in another big game.
Twitter Reactions:
He's been good alongside McTominay.
He's been good alongside Pogba.
He's been good alongside Matic.Simply put, Fred Rodrigues is good.
It took him a while to settle and maybe he's not elite, but he's found his feet now. Really happy for him.#mufc pic.twitter.com/kNBRZeHcFb

I’m actually so proud of Fred, he was brandished a flop by everyone and people ridiculed him & wanted him sold – but his comeback has been incredible. From not being in the squad to the first name on the team sheet. His mentality has been class. Cream always rises to the top.

Fred mate. Fan club needed 🙂
End to end effort. Superb tackle after Maguire screwed up. This guy has been outstanding for us this season. Belief brings reward.

The only downside of Fred’s display could be his free-kick in the closing stages of the game which Juan Mata should have taken. A second goal would have taken the tie to penalties with the scores level on aggregate but that was not meant to be .
Manchester United’s midfield will be strengthened in the near future with the signing of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese has arrived for his medical tests ahead of the official transfer and he could make his debut for the Red Devils before the mid-season break.
