Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson makes his Man Utd-Everton prediction

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson expects Manchester United to cruise to victory over Everton at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The former-Premier League player turned pundit has been disappointed with how Everton’s new signings have settled in and performed in the opening weeks of the season.

Everton were hammered 3-0 at home by Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, and the scoreline could have been greater and still not have flattered Spurs.

The Merseyside club were then thrashed by the same scoreline in Atalanta on Thursday night in the Europa League.  Ronald Koeman had named a fairly strong lineup.

Merson told Sky Sports:

“Everton have disappointed me this season. They have signed all these players but last week they got ripped apart by Tottenham and they weren’t much better at Stamford Bridge before that. I don’t see anything other than a comfortable Manchester United win.

“Paul Pogba has been playing well and will be a miss, although not in this game. Marouane Fellaini will come in and will probably cause Everton problems. They will be alright for this game without Pogba.”

Paul Merson’s official prediction is: Manchester United 3-0 Everton

Romelu Lukaku is set to face his former club after joining us from Everton in a £75 million deal over the summer, whilst Wayne Rooney, who went in the opposite direction, is set to face us.

Which position Rooney plays remains to be seen as he’s played on the left wing, up front and behind the striker already this season for Koeman’s side.

The big question this week has been who will take the place of the injured Paul Pogba in our midfield with many calling for former-Everton man Marouane Fellaini to start after his man of the match performance versus FC Basel on Tuesday.  Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick are also in contention.
