Sky Sports provide fresh update on Manchester United’s move for Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United have reportedly reached a deadlock with Sporting Lisbon in regards to a possible agreement to sign midfielder Bruno Fernandes in the current transfer window.

Fernandes, 25, has been touted to join the Red Devils since the beginning of the year but the club have not been able to find the breakthrough for the transfer due to their reluctance to meet Sporting’s asking price.

According to Sky Sports News, United had initially agreed on a £55m deal in principle to sign the Portuguese but they went back on the proposal soon after to make a reduced £42m bid.

It is added that the Red Devils were in the belief that Sporting were in desperate need of funds before the end of the month but that does not appear the case with the Lisbon side now reluctant to do business.

At present, there is an impasse in the negotiations between the sides and United’s prospects of signing Fernandes are unlikely unless they are willing to re-negotiate to meet Sporting’s previous demands.

With just one week remaining before the transfer deadline, United have certainly left it late in their pursuit of Fernandes but this has not necessarily changed the stance of Sporting, who are unimpressed with the recent handling of the player’s situation.

As such, the United board will definitely have to make the move and increase their transfer offer for the midfielder and this is quite frustrating to hear, given they could have easily signed Fernandes in the first place.

With the transfer saga around Fernandes, there has been pretty much no movement from the club for any other high-profile targets and it won’t be a surprise, if the Portuguese emerges as the only purchase before the deadline.
